The Evolution R210CMS Review
Lets have a look at a really compact compound mitre saw that is fantastic for a lot of jobs and won’t break the bank. The Evolution R210CMS has a huge range of features that will take on many jobs and it also has a lot of benefits that the sliding mitre saws don’t have.
One thing you can’t argue with is the Evolution R210CMS price. You get a huge amount of saw for your money. For a lot of DIY users you need a wide range of power tools to cover all of the day to day jobs in the house. This can get expensive if you buy high end models for all jobs. The reality is you may not need them. If you are leaving a lot of the heavy cutting and construction to builders a larger sliding mitre saw may be over kill for you.
You need to think carefully about what work you will be doing. Whilst not having the capacity to cut wide planks, the R210CMS has the ability to work around the house on lots of finishing jobs like skirtings as well as cutting timbers for garden construction. If you are not in need of the sliding function you could save an awful lot of money.
The features of this model cover all of the basics that a lot of us need, leaving out some of the bulkier and more expensive features also brings it’s own benefits. Have read below for more detail.
The 1200 watt Motor
The 1200 watt motor is ample for the size of cuts that you will be making with this saw. It still has plenty of power to work on tough materials. A larger motor would make it heavier and bulkier and would not be needed.
The maximum cross cut capability is 125mm (4.9 inches) by 55mm (2.1 inches) which is plenty for most DIY applications. The cutting capacity does reduce as the angles get tighter but still plenty for finishing woodwork around the home.
You can cut some very accurate angles with a 0 to 45 degrees adjustment and a 45 to -45 degrees mitre adjustment. The mitre adjustments have easy lock in points for commonly used angles which are 0, 15, 22.5, 30, and 45 degrees. This a good range of angles and covers most jobs.
As with all of the Evolution saws this model comes with a super versatile 210mm 20 tooth blade that will cut wood, plastic, aluminum and some other metals. This is a great feature on a saw that is easy to move about and use. You won’t have to keep changing the blade unless it for a very specific job.
The bore is 25.4 mm which fits other Evolution blades and has a kerf of 1.7mm.
Portability and Storage
This is where this model really comes into it’s own. It is very light at 5.8 kilos compared the
sliding mitre saws like the R210SMS at 11.2kg. If you need to carry it around with other kit it is going to be very easy.
In terms of storage it is easy to pack away in a garage or the boot of a car. The dimensions are 260 wide by 393 high and 381 deep compared to the R210SMS which is 314mm deep by 575mm high by 610mm wide. It’s a considerable difference if you are tight on space.
The Evolution R210CMS safety features are as you would expect. A cast aluminum black blade guard that automatically opens and closes as the saw is pulled down to cut.
There is a dust port so that you can attach a dust bag or a dust collection device if you are in a particularly dusty area.
3 Year Warranty
The 3 year manufacturers warranty come with this model when it is purchased. Good for peace of mind and also show that Evolution are prepared to back the quality of their tools while keeping the price down.
What The Customers Say
We think this is a great mitre saw, let’s see what some of the customers have to say.
A number of people have commented on just how small and compact this model is making it easy to move around. Good for jobs where bigger saws are over the top.
At between £50 and £70 this really is great value for money. Many people comment on this and it is one of the key selling points. If you are not a tradesman this may not get used that often so you don’t want to spend a fortune.
Evolution R210CMS adjustment
The adjustment on this model is nice and easy. You only need two allen keys and set square to make sure that the blade is lined up for accurate cuts horizontally and vertically.
To sum it up this is a fantastic light weight compound mitre saw that is easy to move from job to job and great value for money. The features are pretty standard but plenty for a tool of this cost and size.
If you are thinking of buying a standard chop saw then this could be a good upgrade for a little bit more money, it will work as a chop saw with no issues and cut the finer angles when you need them.
All in all a great buy for a general mitre saw for smaller jobs.
