The Bosch blue and red colours really stand out and add to the GCM 10 SD’s quality feel. Every part of the saw looks robust and is well finished. The Bosch GCM 10 SD Double Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw Features
Let’s take a look at the features in a bit more detail. This model has a lot to offer, it is aimed at the professional market but is priced to suit the DIY user on a larger budget.
Cutting Capacity
This sliding mechanism and large blade give this model a large cutting capacity making it very useful for some pretty big jobs. The maximum capacity at 0 degrees is 85mm (3.3 inches) x 305mm (12 inches). This cutting capacity allows you to cut some pretty large construction timbers for some fairly large jobs indoors and out doors. Wide planks will also be no problem for wide window sills and flooring.
As with most mitre saws as the angles of the cuts increase the capacity decreases slightly. The minimum cutting capacity is 85mm (3.3 inches) x 216 mm (8.5 inches) at a 45 degree mitre setting and 50 mm (1.96 inches)x 305 mm (12 inches) with a 45 degree bevel angle.
Bevel And Mitre Angle Settings
This is a double bevel mitre saw with a wide range of setting to cut some very tight angles. The mitre angles range up to 52 degrees on the left and 60 degrees on the right. The maximum bevel angles are 47 degrees to the left and 46 degrees to the right. These tight angles are great for some complex cuts and the double bevel incline cuts make it easy for cutting skirting boards and cornices quickly with angles with adjoining angles on either side.
Powerful 1800 Watt Motor
To keep up with the demands of a professional user the GCM10SD is equipped with a powerful 1800 watt motor. It will withstand cutting some very tough materials and has the capacity to run for long amounts of time with no problem. The power supply to the motor is 240 volts meaning this can be plugged into any mains power supply foe easy use. This saw is built with longevity in mind.
Light And Compact Design
For a mitre saw of this capacity and power Bosch have designed it to be easy to store and move around. Important if you are moving the saw from job to job on a regular basis and have to carry it long distances. The dimensions are as follows 86 cm deep by 64 cm length by 69 cm height. This can be quickly and easily put onto a shelf ready to be pulled out for the next job. Weighing in at 17kg this is a pretty light saw as well.
Integrated Table Extensions
The table extensions are easy to pull out and allow you to work with larger material on your own. It helps keep the material secure and tight for the most accurate cuts. There is no doubt the best option would be to use this with a specific mitre saw table, but this model is more than capable of working with large pieces of timber on without one.
Dust Management
The dust management on this model gives you two choices. You can either collect the dust into a bag connected to the saw or it can be connected up to a dust collection system in a workshop. Really handy to keep the work place safer and cleaner. If you are working with wood it is important to keep the saw dust to a minimum to retain a clear view of what you are doing at all times.
Multi Purpose 254mm Blade
In the box you will find a very useful multi purpose blade. The 254mm blade give a great cutting capacity as mentioned above and also cuts wood, aluminium and plastics with ease. For general jobs these blades are great, a lot of maintenance jobs can need different types of material cut. Blade changes for each of these will slow you down considerably.
What The Customers Say
Now that we have had a look at the features and how the GCM 10S works, we will give you some of the highlights of the customer reviews we have read for this model. The customer comments form a large part of our reviews as we believe it is important to get a well rounded view of the mitre saws on the market.
Great For DIY
A couple of reviews we have read have been from non trades people that have decided to spend that bit extra on this model. They have not been disappointed and found this a very useful and well built machine that will last. For many domestic users spending a bit extra on a power mitre saw is well worth it if you think you will use it a lot over the coming years. Bosch as a brand are renowned for building high quality tools that last.
Compact When Stored
Comments have been made about how easy and compact this is to store after use. Even with the Bosch mitre saw stand they both fold fit nicely onto a shelf. This is a nice comment to here as often the sliding mitre saws can be a bit to bulky for some users. If you are looking at buying a sliding mitre saw it is wise to have a look at the dimensions and check that it can be easily stored. Bosch have done a great job of designing this model for both home and professional use.
Easy To Use Out Of The Box
This is an important point to note. Users have commented that this mitre saw was a simple woodworking tool to get and of the box and start using. Most people who purchase one of these models will not be an expert woodworker, the GCM 10 SD will be a simple to set up saw and quickly do the jobs you need to do with no fuss. Bosch are experts at building easy to use mitre saws, always putting the users first.
Blade That Is Included Is Good
The multi purpose blade that comes with the saw has been a hit with some customers. The multi purpose blade allows you to cut a number of materials including wood, plastic and aluminium straight out of the box. No time consuming blade changes, and no extra expense of new blades every time you want to work on a new material.
Conclusion
All we can say to sum the GCM 10 SD up is that Bosch have done it again! They have produced a mitre saw that really considers all of the users needs. The design of the saw mean it’s fantastic for moving from job to job whilst also being robust and powerful enough to withstand the biggest jobs and toughest materials. In terms of what need to be cut the blade and capacity will take on pretty much most jobs a mitre saw is needed for.
This is priced well, swaying many DIY users that are looking for that extra bit of quality in their woodworking tools to spend that bit extra. The name Bosch is enough to convince many customers that this saw is worth that bit extra. Any power tool that is worked hard is going to need fixing or servicing from time to time and the Bosch customer network is second to none. For those of us that are looking at a mitre saw as a long term investment for many jobs this is ideal. Buying a cheaper saw and working it hard may mean you end up buying twice.
A fantastic highly versatile mitre saw. We highly recommend it for all users.
