Silverline 262705 DIY 1400W Compound Mitre Saw 210 mm 1400W UK,Bule

This is out first look at a Silverline mitre saw. They only offer a couple of saws in the UK market which are good all rounders and good value. The 262705 is a compact compound mitre saw which is fantastic for occasional use and for the DIY users out there but probably not enough for a lot of tradesmen that are using them every day for commercial work.

This is the perfect gift idea for any budding home carpenter that is looking to get to grips with woodwork. By starting with a model like this you will be able to work on a lot of projects to see if it is something you want to continue with. If you find you want to progress you could upgrade at a later date.

With a saw like this it is small and can be easily put away and forgotten about until the next job that it is needed for. If you are not looking to spend a great deal but want to add a handy mitre saw to your tool collection then read on as this could be for you.

The Features

Below we are going to look at the Silverline 262705 features, they are basic but more than enough for a lot of projects and add hoc jobs. There are some real benefits to this model as well as some drawbacks which need to be considered.

The 1400 watt Motor

The 1400 watt motor is a nice touch for a saw of this size. It will give you plenty of power for a lot of tough materials. When you look at the Evolution equivalent model it only has a 1200 watt motor. This extra bit if grunt is going to be really useful when you are cutting some tough hard woods like oak or cutting through aluminium and metals.

Cutting Capacity

The maximum cutting capacity is 120 mm (4.7 inches) by 50 mm (1.96 inches) which could be slightly bigger to be honest. It will still cut a lot of timbers that are available for smaller finishing work and garden jobs. This cutting capacity diminishes as you start to add angles to the cut. This is what we would expect from a saw of this size and capacity, it is not designed for the bigger jobs.

Cutting Angles

There is plenty of scope with this mitre saw to cut a lot of tricky angles. The maximum mitre angle goes from 0 to 45 degrees to the left and right and has a bevel angle of 0 – 45 degrees. There isn’t a quick lock in system for a lot of the angles that are used a lot which is available on other models. This helps with accuracy and speed so would be a nice feature to have.

The Blade

This model is supplied with 210mm 24 tooth TCT Silverline chop saw blade. Great for all round cutting of wood and composite materials like plastic piping etc. There are a lot more blades available on the market if you are looking for a fine cut or want to cut other materials.

Portability and Storage

This is a real benefit that lot of people don’t really consider. When you are doing a mitre saw comparison most of us are drawn to which has the most power or biggest cut. The one thing to bare in mind is that they are very large units that need to be stored and moved. This is a convenient compact saw that can be easily carried around with other kit or stored in a small space in the garage. For a lot of us this is a big consideration especially if you have a lot of other power tools. The actual dimension are 47.8 high by 29.4 cm wide and 29.4 cm deep if you need to check the available space you have.

Safety

The Silverline 262705 safety features are fairly comprehensive. It comes with a dust bag to collect dust from small jobs. This won’t get a lot of the dust out of the room if you are cutting a lot of wood, in that case you could connect it to a device to remove a lot of dust.

The blade cover is made of metal and covers the whole blade when the saw is not in use. This will gradually open to allow the saw to cut and close as the saw is lifted up and away from the material.

3 Year Warranty

The 262705 comes with a 3 year Silverline warranty. Even though this is not an expensive saw it is worth having for peace of mind. It is also on par with the Evolution range. Silverline are a very large tool company, many of us like to have the backing of a big company when making a purchase.

What The Customers Say

This model has good ratings but has had some mixed feed back. Here are a few common themes from many of the customers out there.

Compact

Easy to lug around from job to job and move around the house for quick tasks. It’s really light which means you can carry other things as well.

Great Value

This is one of the cheaper models on the market and will do a high percentage of the jobs the larger and more expensive saws will do. You get a lot for your money and still get a quality mitre saw.

Adjustment Not To Easy

A couple of people have had difficulty in getting it accurately adjusted. This may take a little time, but well worth spending the time to get the adjustment just right to get really accurate cuts.

Conclusion

I would say this is a great starter mitre saw or one for occasional use. If are working on a garden project or around the home this going to successfully tackle an awful lot of jobs for very little money. It is not a saw for larger jobs jobs or sites where you are going to need something a lot more robust.

An ideal DIY gift for the enthusiast looking to dip a tie into the world of woodwork. If it’s not in use it won’t dominate your work space like a lot of the bigger models. It could also be good to compliment your your bigger saws.

It could also be a good compliment to a larger workshop mitre saw. One that you can quickly set up to make some fast cuts on a job that may not require something bigger. Definitely a good addition to your tool kit.
