The Evolution Rage 3B Review
In this Evolution Rage compound review we are going to take a detailed look at the Rage3-B 210mm TCT multi purpose mitre saw from the Evolution power tools range. This is a budget model that has some great features and is a step up from the lowest price saw that we have reviewed. In this review we will look at the features that this model offers and the sort of jobs it is suitable for. Hopefully we will help you make an informed decision when purchasing your saw.
The Main Features
This is a saw suited to the DIY enthusiast that is looking for a versatile saw that will deal with most jobs and materials, not really aimed at the professional market.
This unit comes with many good features and is a step up from the basic level. Have a read of the features and see if this saw is suitable for the jobs that you have in mind.
The Evolution Rage Multi Purpose Blade
The blade really sets the Rage3 apart from the others as it allows you to cut metal, plastic and wood with one blade. Using the unique patented Rage saw blade you can cut through steel, and aluminium with virtually no sparks and then cut wood with the same blade.
This is a great feature as it gives you versatility without purchasing multiple blades. In the lifetime of a mitre saw it will probably be needed for cutting different materials and this model is ready straight out of the box.
When cutting metal the blade does not produce a lot of heat giving a nice smooth finish straight from the cut.
There are a number of things to consider when it comes to the cut from your mitre saw. There is the depth of the cut to consider. The Rage3-B has a 6cm (2.3 inches) depth of cut and a 12cm (4.7 inches) cutting width (allowing you to work with some decent size timbers for smaller jobs such as skirting boards and stud walling. If you are looking to work with more structural timbers then a larger model may be the right one for you.
The blade is powered by a 1100 watt 230 volt motor that has enough power to cut through the maximum size material with ease giving you a nice clean cut and a good finish. One of the important things with a mitre saw is that the cut is clean especially if it is a visible piece of wood in the home.
The saw pivots to 45 degrees on either side to get a most of the angles you require from a mitre saw and can be set at anything between 0 and 45 degrees. There are pre set mitre stops at the common angles to quickly lock the saw into place at 0, 15, 22.5, 30 and 45 degrees. This is ample for most of us that require a mitre saw for one off jobs. A professional may require a more adjustable saw, have a read of some of the mid range mitre saw reviews for more adjustable saws.
A neat little clamping mechanism allows you to clamp wood in place while it is cut that helps to manage larger pieces of material.
This Evolution Rage3 is a compact well designed saw with small dimensions so is easy to store on a shelf in the garage or in the shed. An added bonus with the multi purpose blade is that you haven’t got a few blades to store as well. Its is nice and easy to move around to get from job to job.
Safety is important with power mitre saws, the Rage3-B has a cover that automatically covers the blade when it is lifted up and opens the cover up as it is pushed down into the cut minimising the time that the blade is exposed when it is spinning.
Keeping the dust to a minimum is important when cutting a lot of wood for health and safety. There is an easily detachable dust bag fitted to this Evolution Mitre Saw to catch the dust until the bag is full helping you to keep a clean work space.
The Jobs It Is Suited To
This is a versatile model and can deal with a lot of jobs, it can easily glide through the standard chop saw jobs for internal use like skirting boards, flooring and stud walling.
As well as this it can tackle steel and aluminium cutting through pipes and girders leaving a clean finish. Super handy for most jobs. It also does all of these jobs out of the box without changing the blade!
Value For Money
The Evolution Rage 3 B is brilliant value for money, it comes as a complete package that will cut metal, plastic and steel straight out of the box with no extra bits. This makes it a very useful tool and all backed up with a three year warranty. It is a DIY experts dream, maybe not robust enough for the professional that is working their saws hard all day long, but this is a reliable tool for frequent but not daily use.
This power tool comes with a three year warranty which is great for peace of mind. Most of us will only want to buy mitre saws once in our lives and this one should last the test of time and if there are any problems it can be fixed within the thirty six month warranty period. This is a great perk that you don’t get with all mitre saws and shows the manufacturers confidence in the product.
This is a fantastic DIY tool that will serve its purpose well for most home jobs. The fact that it cuts metal as well is brilliant for someone who wants to buy a saw that will do multiple jobs without buying lots of extra blades.
For the DIY enthusiast it is a great buy unless you are working with more structural material but for the professional a more robust saw with larger cutting dimensions is probably a good idea.
All in all it is highly recommended and has many great reviews from happy customers at sites like Amazon. Definitely worth every penny!
